The Renewable Energy Growth (REG) Program: Optimize Savings+Income

Town of Coventry solar project, RI; 123 kW
Bristol Quinta Gamelin Center; Bristol, RI; 49.2 kW

Great news for medium (25–250 kW) and Commercial 1 (250–500 kW) solar projects:

  • 2026 REG rates are scheduled to rise significantly, likely reaching the highest levels in program history.
  • Projects up to 500 kW will receive the highest incentive payments and the fastest interconnection timelines.
  • While final rates will be announced in November, higher 2026 REG incentives remain very likely, even with factors like tariffs and ITC going away.

Stay Updated

  • The 2026 REG application windows will open in April.
  • Despite the ITC phasing out, there’s still a window to stack REG incentives with ITC for maximum financial impact.
  • Follow this page for the latest updates on REG CP development.
  • Contact the Solect team today to learn how your project can take advantage of these incentives.

The Investment Tax Credit has been eliminated.

But with Solect, you can still combine REG + ITC

Solect has invested in ITC-eligible equipment to safe-harbor the 30% federal tax credit, leading to bigger customer savings. Despite the ITC phasing out, there’s still a window to stack REG incentives with the ITC for maximum financial impact.

Federal ITC Highlights

  • Covers 30% of eligible project costs (e.g., $300k on a $1M project)
  • Projects starting construction before July 4, 2026 can claim the FULL ITC
  • Projects starting after July 4, 2026, must be operational by December 31, 2027 to qualify, which means a shorter completion window.

Renewable Energy Fund (REF)

REF provides grants for renewable energy projects that have the potential to produce electricity in a cleaner, more sustainable manner, while stimulating job growth in the green technology and energy sectors.

Net metering

Net metering allows businesses and organizations with eligible renewable energy systems (up to 10 MW) generating up to 125% of the on-site electric demand to receive bill credits. Public entities are allowed to leverage virtual net metering with renewable energy developers for up to 10 MW per project site.
