WILEVCO, a Billerica, Mass.-based manufacturer of food processing equipment, has installed a82 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) renewable energy system on the roof of its facility. The system will cover up to 85% of the company’s annual electrical needs. WILEVCO, a family-owned company that is credited with inventing the first automatic industrial batter mixer, has been in the food processing equipment business for 46 years, and distributes its products around the world. Owner Leverett Flint credits his interest in greening his business as well as “Yankee stubbornness” as his motivators in choose a renewable solar energy solution.
“We you look at the fact that solar is helping the environment, and then look at the financials, it was a very easy decision and a smart investment to choose solar for our building,” Flint said. “Now my mission is to spread the word about the benefits of solar.”
